"Authenticity is everything"
says a company specializing in hiding the fact that text is AI-written
Sam recently said “these blogs just write themselves.”
Case in point:
“In today's digital world, authenticity is everything," said Johnson, Developer of HumanizingAIText.com. "Our tool empowers users to transform AI-generated content into text that is humanized and bypass AI detectors, giving them the competitive edge they need to stand out. This bonus offer is the perfect chance to experience the full capabilities of our platform."
This is from a press release for a text humanizer, the newest flavor of cheating tech which you may know by other names: spinners, synonymizers, or paraphrasers.
In addition to Essay Mills, we keep a list of site for AI-writing tools with an illicit use-cases in classroom writing, and AI text humanizers are a growing number of that list. If you’re looking to block these types of sites with your campus firewall, hit me up for a list or consider supporting our research by subscribing to get access without the extra effort.
And in case you’re wondering how and if they work, here’s the previous paragraph run through a “humanizer” just for fun:
Next to Essay Mills, there are sites for AI-writing tools that are illegal for classroom writing: paste one more in the arsenal of those sites with AI text humanizers. If you need a list from me to block such sites with your campus firewall, hit me up, or consider supporting our research through your subscription for easier access instead.
Some reordering, synonyms, and changed sentence structure. The use of a colon is interesting (NOT A TELL THAT A HUMANIZER WAS USED, BTW).
Did a ChatGPT output passed through a humanizer beat Originality.AI? No, it did not.
Original ChatGPT:
Dogs and cats are common pets worldwide, known for their distinct traits and behaviors. Dogs are loyal and social, often seeking interaction and companionship. Cats are independent and curious, enjoying exploration and quiet moments. Both animals bring joy and comfort to their owners, each in their unique way. Dogs thrive on routines and outdoor activities, while cats prefer indoor environments with cozy spots. Their needs vary, from food to grooming, but both require love and care. Choosing between a dog or cat depends on lifestyle and preferences, as both species make wonderful, loving companions in their own special ways.
“Humanized”
Dogs and cats are possibly the most popular pets around the world, with different characteristics, types of breeds, and behavior. Dogs are known for their loyalty and social nature, as they crave interaction and companionship. In sharp contrast, cats are independent and curious, preferring to explore and meander through sweet moments of solace. Both pets provide their owners with happiness and comfort in different ways. Dogs thrive on consistent patterns, or routine, in their activities outdoors; while cats prefer being in their homes, finding cozy corners. Their needs, which vary from food through grooming, are similar in that both require love and care. Making the decision whether you want a dog or a cat depends on one's way of life and the particular passions an individual has because both can become the finest and loving pet in a meaningful dimension.

Two thoughts:
👍AI detectors do detect and can be one of the many tools at your disposal on campus used responsibly with other policies and methods to promote and validate integrity: process tracking, in class writing, paper journaling, etc.
👎These site, like essay mills, prey on students. They make false claims while robbing students of both money and learning opportunities.
